It was unusual for him to be in the city at that time, when he would normally be on assignment elsewhere in the world, documenting conflicts. You could not see anything. I have nachtwe hours researching and finding photographs on the Internet to support the posting.

As I was photographing the destruction of the first tower, the second tower fell, and I was literally right under it. They were frightened, some were hurt in a minor way, but I think that the real panic and the real terror and the real chaos was inside the towers.


It looks like there are railroad tracks across my negatives. Enter James Nachtwey’s Photo Gallery. So my instinct was to go to the place where the tower had fallen. The Most Influential People. Inwe had Nachtwey in the office, poring over his contact sheets, reliving the events of that Tuesday. It was, as I said, all instinct.
