Students conduct a review vaa relevant literature and develop research project management knowledge and skills and ways of effectively presenting and communicating research findings. The VCE Extended Investigation enables students to develop, refine and extend knowledge and skills in independent research and carry out an investigation that focuses on a rigorous research question. These criteria are provided on pages 26— Students develop their research plan, select appropriate research methods and focus their research on the selected area of investigation. This area of study provides students with the opportunity to apply critical thinking skills to their research.

They are also genuinely interested in their topics which makes them want to develop the answers for their thesis. Students complete practical exercises in the development of critical thinking skills and include them in their Extended Investigation Journal. To achieve this outcome the student will draw on key knowledge and key skills outlined in Area of Study 2.

Contribution to final assessment School-assessed Coursework for Unit 3 will contribute 30 per cent.
